TERMS & CONDITIONS The following is a summary of the Rental Conditions. Please note that all prices are quoted in South African Rand / Namibian Dollars. Rates and / or conditions quoted in our brochures are subject to change without notice.
RENTAL DURATIONMinimum rental is 5 days and 10 days for collection / return in Botswana / Zimbabwe / Zambia. When calculating the number of days, the day of collection is counted as day one of the rental regardless of collection time. The day of return is counted as the final day.
DEPOT HOURS FOR PICK-UP & DROP-OFF Maui Camper Hire has branches in Windhoek, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Durban, Maun, Harare and Victoria Falls. Office hours are from Monday to Friday from 08h00 to 16h30. Collections and returns on weekends and public holidays by arrangement only. Sunday / Public Holidays collections and returns are subject to a surcharge of R300.
TRANSFER Airport and local hotel transfers for all branches = R100 per transfer. Windhoek R200 per transfer.
EXCESS REDUCTION OPTIONS Maui Camper Hire offers 3 very competitive excess reduction options :
Standard Cover (included in the rate) In the event of any damage to either a Maui Camper Hire vehicle or third party vehicle / property, the hirer will be liable for the first R30 000. The hirer will also be fully liable for replacement or repair of windscreen and / or radio. The excess of R30 000 can be paid by cash, traveller’s cheques or credit card (a manual imprint of the credit card will be taken and the amount will have to be authorised by the bank). This is fully refundable on return of the vehicle to the agreed location, on the agreed date, with no damage incurred to the Maui Camper Hire vehicle or third party vehicle / property. Hirer is also responsible for all tyre damage. Further details can be found on the Welcome Letter.
To reduce this excess, Maui Camper Hire offers the following options:
Super Cover Super Cover at R140 per day will reduce this excess for any damage to either the Maui Camper Hire vehicle or third party vehicle / property to R15 000. The option of Super Cover will also waive the excess for replacement or repair of windscreen and / or radio. Further details can be found on the Welcome Letter.

Exclusive Cover Exclusive Cover at R230 per day for all vehicles will reduce the excess for any damage to either the Maui Camper Hire vehicle or third party vehicle / property to Zero. The option of Exclusive Cover will also waive the excess for replacement or repair of windscreen and / or radio as well as covering all tyre damages. Further details can be found on the Welcome Letter.
ACCIDENTS If the rental vehicle is involved in an accident and is not driveable, a replacement vehicle, if available, may be collected from the closest branch.If the hirer requires a replacement vehicle to be delivered, then these charges will be for the hirer’s account. None of the excess reduction options cover this eventuality.The hirer is responsible for the recovery of the damaged vehicle to the original rental depot.If the hirer is unable or unwilling to take a replacement vehicle, no refunds for early termination of the contract will apply.No refund of rental days lost will be considered during the period in which a replacement vehicle is being organised.Should there be no replacement vehicle available, no refund for lost rental days will be considered.Should the hirer continue with a replacement vehicle then a new rental contract and insurance conditions will apply. Maui Camper Hire reserves the right to apply the above conditions as they deem fit.
EXCLUSIONS The hirer will be fully liable for any damage to the Maui Camper Hire vehicle or third party vehicle / property if:
The terms of the rental contract are breached.Damage to the vehicle is caused by careless, wilful or reckless driving. Damage to the vehicle is caused due to incorrect use of clutch, handbrake etc.Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.Driving on restricted roads / areas.Water submersion or salt-water damage is caused. In case of any damage to the Maui Camper Hire vehicle or third party vehicle / property a second excess will be collected to cover the excess for any subsequent damage.
INFRINGEMENTS Maui Camper Hire reserves the right to charge the hirer for any speeding or parking fines, associated administration costs and / or accidents including third party vehicle / property damage not reported on the return of the vehicle.
EXCHANGE RATE / CURRENCY VARIATIONS All credit card transactions are conducted in South African Rand. Due to exchange rate fluctuations there could be some variance in the amount refunded compared to the amount initially charged. Maui Camper Hire accepts no liability for any variances up or down.
CREDIT CARDS If a credit card is presented as payment, the credit card holder will be jointly and severally liable as a customer.
LICENCE A valid non-endorsed driver’s licence is required - international licence is preferred.
MINIMUM AGE Drivers must be 21 years or older.
MULTIPLE RENTALS Multiple rentals can be combined to qualify the renter for our long-term rate. Motorhome and car rentals in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa can be combined to qualify if travel is within a 3-month period e.g. one 14-day rental plus one 7-day rental qualifies for the 21-day rate.
ROAD RESTRICTIONS Vehicles may be taken into South Africa’s neighbouring states but are not allowed into Angola or Malawi. All insurance cover is void if vehicles enter prohibited areas.
Maui Camper Hire reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to restrict vehicle movements in certain areas due to adverse road or weather conditions, political situations or any other reason.
REPAIRS Repairs of up to R1 000 may be effected without authorization and will be reimbursed upon presentation of receipts. When over R1 000 we need to be contacted for authorisation.
CHANGE OF VEHICLE Maui Camper Hire reserves the right to substitute a comparable or superior vehicle should the requested vehicle not be available due to unforeseen circumstances. This shall not constitute a breach of contract and does not entitle the hirer to any refund.
CANCELLATION FEESIf cancelled 25 days prior to pick-up = No chargeIf cancelled 24 days to 6 days prior to pick-up =15% of gross rateIf cancelled 5 days to 0 days (no show) = 50% of gross rate If vehicle is returned early for any reason no refund will be considered.
TAXES VAT is included in gross rates. Above prices are subject to change in accordance with changes in government taxes.
PETS No pets are permitted in our vehicles.
